Double-sided polyimide tape with ultra-thin silicone adhesive layer

Recent­ly, we were asked if CAPLINQ sup­plied a tape with the fol­low­ing specifications:

• Adhe­sive: 17um Sil­i­cone adhesive
• Poly­imide Back­ing Car­ri­er: 25um Polyimide
• Adhe­sive: 17um Sil­i­cone adhesive
• Release lin­er: Paper or PET >=50um
• Roll Width: 50mm wide

A big part of what CAPLINQ does is cus­tom-designed spe­cial­ty tapes. This means design­ing and man­u­fac­tur­ing tapes to cus­tomer spec­i­fi­ca­tions. Once we defined the require­ments, we were able to see how this prod­uct fit into our prod­uct line. We first drew up a sketch (like the one in the image), and pre­sent­ed it to the cus­tomer who agreed. Then we pre­sent­ed it to pro­duc­tion, who also under­stood the require­ment. In our nomen­cla­ture, this would appear as LINQTAPE PIT1SD-UT.

PIT1SD-UT: Double-sided polyimide tape with a very-thin silicone adhesive layer

We use our prod­uct nomen­cla­ture to accu­rate­ly describe our materials:

• LINQTAPE: This is our brand name used for our spe­cial­ty tapes
• PIT: Stands for Poly­imide Tape
• 1: Stands for 1mil thick poly­imide (gener­ic kap­ton) back­ing or carrier
• S: Stands for Sil­i­cone adhesive
• D: Dou­ble-sided. It also means that there is only ONE release lin­er, the oth­er side is wound to the top of the bot­tom layer
• UT: Stands for our “Ultra-Thin” adhe­sive lay­er of 0.5mil or 17um

As of this writ­ing, the prod­uct has yet to be pro­duced. But it will be, and it will be added to the ever-grow­ing list of prod­ucts we offer our customers.
