Product Description

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010 Blue is a high-performance, two-part acrylic structural adhesive specifically engineered to bond low surface energy plastics, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), HDPE, LDPE, UHMW-PE, and thermoplastic olefins (TPO), without the need for special surface preparation. Designed to eliminate the complexity of flame treatment, plasma treatment, primers, and chemical etching, DP8010 provides a simple one-step bonding solution for difficult-to-bond plastics while also delivering excellent adhesion to metals, composites, and dissimilar substrates.

Available in both regular and non-sag formulations, the adhesive offers an 8-minute work life, 10-minute open time, handling strength in approximately 60 minutes, and full cure within 24 hours at room temperature. Its excellent water, humidity, and chemical resistance make it an ideal replacement for mechanical fasteners, rivets, and plastic welding in demanding industrial, transportation, consumer product, and assembly applications.

Work life @25°C
Work life is the amount of time we have to work with a material until it is no longer able to be easily worked and applied on a substrate.

It is based on the change in viscosity and it can rely on the application requirements.

Tensile Strength
Tensile strength determines the resistance of a material to break under tension and it measures how much elongating load (or tensile stress) it can handle before fracture.

To make it simple, it measures how much force we have to apply when pulling apart a material before it breaks.

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP8010 Blue / DP8010NS Blue: Structural Adhesive for Low Surface Energy Plastics

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010 Blue and DP8010NS Blue are two-part acrylic-based adhesives designed to structurally bond many low surface energy plastics, including polypropylene, polyethylene, and TPOs, without special surface preparation. These adhesives offer a one-step bonding process that can replace screws, rivets, plastic welding, chemical etching, priming, and other surface treatment methods in many plastic assembly applications.

Structural bonding for difficult plastics — DP8010 Blue and DP8010NS Blue bond polyolefins such as PP, PE, HDPE, and TPO without flame treatment, plasma treatment, or chemical primers.

Available in regular and non-sag formulations, these adhesives cure at room temperature, provide excellent water and humidity resistance, and support bonding of dissimilar substrates in industrial plastic assembly.

Designed for structural plastic bonding — suitable for polypropylene, polyethylene, HDPE, LDPE, TPO, ABS, PVC, acrylic, FRP, metals, and dissimilar substrate assemblies.

DP8010 Blue and DP8010NS Blue provide a solvent-free adhesive system with convenient cartridge dispensing, bulk availability, and strong overlap shear performance on plastics and metals.

Mixing, Application & Cure

Mixing

Use a 10:1 mix ratio by volume or weight. EPX static mixing nozzles are recommended for cartridge use; hand mixing should continue after uniform color is achieved.

Application

Apply adhesive and join surfaces within the open time. Optimum bondline thickness is typically 0.005 to 0.020 inch.

Curing

Allow the adhesive to cure at 60 °F / 16 °C or above. Heat up to 150 °F / 66 °C can increase cure speed.

Technology Advantage

How DP8010 Simplifies Plastic Assembly

Assembly Challenge DP8010 Benefit
Polyolefins are difficult to bond with conventional adhesives. Bonds many PP, PE, HDPE, and TPO substrates without special surface preparation.
Mechanical fasteners add weight, holes, and assembly steps. Can replace screws, rivets, and plastic welding in many plastic assemblies.
Vertical or overhead applications require non-sag behavior. DP8010NS Blue provides a non-sag option for controlled adhesive placement.
Assemblies may see humidity, water, and chemical exposure. Provides excellent water and humidity resistance and very good chemical resistance.
